Catering for Play Centres
Catering for play centres
Play centres are great and safe places for children to socialise, explore, run around and generally let off steam whilst adults relax and chat. No wonder they’re popular places to spend time.
Of course all that climbing, sliding, crawling and leaping makes children hungry, so it’s important to provide delicious and nourishing child-friendly food, and equally important to offer something tempting for the adults to enjoy while they relax. Just remember it’s the adults who decide where to go, so if you’ve got fabulous cakes and traybakes on offer it’s likely to sway their decision!
What might make you stand out from the crowd?
If you’ve a lot of early visitors, start their day well with an assortment of breakfast items, but keep it simple with hot sandwiches, toast, cereals and so on.
For lunches it’s always good idea to have few kids’ favourites on the menu for the less-adventurous eaters, but how about using artisan breads for sandwiches and including some freshly baked pastries in your confectionery range? Both can be baked from frozen on site and will fill your café with a delicious aroma. For a healthy eating slant why not offer fresh salads in summer, hot soups and filled jacket potatoes in cooler weather – all easy to prepare and popular with children and adults alike.
As well as hot beverages you’ll need some cold drinks too – fruit juices, freshly blended smoothies, milkshakes and cordials. And be sure to display a tempting basket of wrapped confectionery items on your counter top.
And of course, there are children’s parties to think about. What can you offer that will delight the little cherubs and make the party an occasion to remember? Should you have an additional menu for the adults who attend? Now there’s a great idea!
We’ve lots of delicious and inspiring food ideas in our Play Centre Directory to help you create some exciting hot or cold buffet menus for your party planners to choose from.
And don’t forget to stock up on cloths, mops and wipes – we’ve got a feeling you’ll need them!
