Ensuring Food Hygiene and Food Safety: The people who protect your plate.

With over 1 billion food products sold every week in the UK, it’s important that those products are safe for consumers to eat. Food standards in the UK are globally respected – the UK’s food & drink is regarded as some of the safest in the world – but it’s the responsibility of every food business to comply with the food regulations we’re so respected for. When we say ‘food business’ we mean everyone involved in putting food on the table – from farm to fork. And of course that includes us at Total Foodservice.

It’s the Food Standards Agency’s role to make sure that food businesses follow the rules to ensure food standards remain high. In partnership with other bodies, such as local councils, they check food safety & hygiene in catering businesses, inspect food manufacturers, vineyards and warehouses, and even tackle food crime.

So what are the regulations for Total Foodservice?

As caterers, you’ll be familiar with the food safety regulations you need to comply with in your own business, but you may not be aware of our accreditations.

So here’s a little reminder!

At Total Foodservice we’re both ISO9001:2015 and NSF accredited to the foodservice industry Higher Level NSF Wholesale, Storage & Distribution Standard.

What does that mean?

To be ISO9001:2015 accredited we have to have a Quality Management System in place that meets the regulation’s requirements for business operations such as ours. This includes a continually developed food safety system reflecting best working practices, and a full HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point) analysis.

NSF Certification UK is an external auditing organisation, which works with food businesses to ensure products and premises are compliant, safe and quality assured. It is the largest global certification provider in the food and farming sector, certifying over 40,000 UK clients annually across all the major schemes and standards.

Yes, but what does it mean?

Well these accreditations matter. Since our business is to supply your business with goods of the highest quality, it’s not good enough to simply say, ‘well of course the products we sell you meet all legal requirements and are safe’. The accreditations demonstrate that we comply with all aspects of UK & EU Food Hygiene legislation & regulations – it’s an integral and ongoing part of everything we do.

We’re very proud of our standards

The food we sell you is already of exceptional quality, but it matters to us that our quality control procedures are also of the highest standard. As part of our commitment to our customers we do our homework on the safety, legality and provenance of every product we sell. It means you can have faith in the quality of every product we supply you with.

We are justifiably proud of our ongoing success, which has enabled us to achieve sustained industry-wide recognition. I think we owe a big thank you to our dedicated quality assurance team. Well done!
