Easter with Total Foodservice

Easter. It’s not just about hot cross buns and chocolate eggs!

As we all know, Easter is what we call ‘a moveable feast’ since Easter Sunday can fall on any date between the 21 March and the 25 April depending on the moon’s phases. Basically it’s the first full moon following the spring equinox – usually around the 20 March when the hours of daylight equal the hours of darkness – after which the hours of daylight increase steadily until the autumn equinox in September.

It seems right then that this time of year should be celebrated and indeed according to historians, even before Easter became part of the Christian calendar, the Anglo-Saxons held a pagan festival to worship Eostre, the goddess of spring.

No surprise then that Easter often marks the start of the British holiday season. It’s the first bank holiday of the year, it’s the end of term, there’s blossom on the hedgerows and lambs in the fields and folk are throwing off the shackles of the winter months and venturing out.

This year Easter is late, falling 19-22 April, and with people looking forward to the break now’s the time to be promoting your special Easter offers and events, in print, on your websites and on social media.

Easter is very much a family time, so if you’re offering a traditional Sunday lunch you might want to promote a special family favourites menu for Easter or have an offer where children’s meals are at a discounted price (or even free) when purchased with an adult main meal. Having an Easter egg hunt or other activities will bring families in. Use hashtags such as #Easter, #EasterOffers, #EasterDiscounts, #EasterEggHunt to let people know what you’re doing and encourage them to join you.

Of course the Easter break stretches from Friday to Monday, so as well as Easter Sunday lunch, there are other fabulous and varied opportunities to promote your business – brunch, morning coffee, afternoon tea, high tea, dinner. You don’t have to do them all; decide which best suits your particular establishment and make it a real feature of your Easter offer and boast about it using #brunch, #afternoontea, #coffeetime.

One little word that will always tempt people to eat out is ‘homemade’, so make sure you include it in the description of all your #homemade goodies. Total Foodservice can deliver all the ingredients you need to create a homemade masterpiece. Of course not everything on your menu has to be made from scratch – so don’t forget to check the range of delicious Total Foodservice products that will make life easier for you AND delight your customers!
