Nutrition & Hydration Week
Nutrition and Hydration Week 11- 17 March 2019
This year sees the eighth Nutrition & Hydration Week – a social movement that reaches out to those working in health and social care, whether they are catering, care or medical professionals.
What’s it about?
With as many as 3 million people in the UK at risk of malnutrition, the campaign seeks to promote good practices that can help prevent under nutrition and dehydration, improving the health and well-being of those in care and in turn reducing the burden on health and social care services.
Bringing people together by creating energy, focus and fun to highlight and demonstrate the importance and value of food and drink in maintaining health and well-being, the main highlight of the week is the Global Tea Party. This takes place on the Wednesday (this year the 13 March) and it’s a chance for organisations to hold a tea party wherever they are and to share the fun on social media, using the hashtag #NHW2019 and tweeting them to @NHWeek
How else can we join in?
Another great idea is to give each day a daily theme for Nutrition & Hydration week, such as these that we love suggested by the N&H team:
Monday Big Breakfast – the most important meal of the day
Tuesday Snacky Tuesday – the value of snacks between meals and at suppertime
Wednesday Global Afternoon Tea
Thursday Thirsty Thursday
Friday Fruity Friday
Saturday Smoothie Saturday
Sunday Sundae Sunday
You could even showcase your organisation’s catering talents by holding a ‘Come Dine with Me’ event and inviting guests to sit down and enjoy a meal and drink with the people you are caring for. Not only is this a chance to show your commitment to nutritional care but it’s also a lovely way to bring people together for socialising and fun.
It doesn’t stop here
Keep the momentum going by participating in these other focus days planned by the N&H team:
13 June 2019 Thirsty Thursday
20 September 2019 Fruity Friday
26 November 2019 Tasty Suppers

Should we get involved?
Nutrition & Hydration Week is open to anyone who wants to join the shared cause of helping people understand the importance of nutrition and hydration in health and social care and what’s more it’s free, fun and very easy to get involved. It’s also about sharing and learning from other ideas in the industry, and there are a number or free resources – recipes, newsletters, templates, links to other organisations and a handbook with loads of ideas and advice – through the Nutrition & Hydration Week website
