Veganuary

Veganuary (vegan January) launched in 2014 and is a registered charity which is dedicated to changing people’s views on what being vegan means, while providing information and support for those who choose to take part in this change in lifestyle throughout January.

For something to be vegan, it must be completely free of animal product such as meat, eggs, milk, honey, leather and so on. Therefore, being vegan means not consuming or using anything which would contain these products. It is said that veganism is one of the most effective life choices a person can make to reduce animal suffering, help our planet and also improve health!

So, the main idea behind Veganuary is that it allows meat eaters, pescatarians and vegetarians to collectively give this lifestyle choice a go for a month to see the positive ways it can affect their lives, the lives of animals and the planet.

It doesn’t have to be hard to offer flavoursome and nutritious vegan options, many staple foods such as fruit, veg, pasta, lentils and potatoes are naturally vegan and can be used to create delicious vegan friendly dishes (and remember, they’re also suitable for vegetarians – but not always the other way around).

Veganuary 2018 was a record-breaking year, with 168,642 people signing up to go vegan, and many continuing after January. 2019 is set to be even more successful as more people are becoming aware of the benefits this lifestyle choice can have!
