Eat More Fish!

The idea that fish is ‘good for your brain’ is more than just a myth. Studies have shown that eating fish lowers the risk of stroke, depression and Alzheimer’s, boosts your mood and improves brain function. Not only that, the omega-3 in fish is good for skin, hair and nail health and helps improve sleep.

Seafood Week

No wonder it’s recommended we eat fish twice a week.

However, a recent survey by YouGov (commissioned by World Cancer Research) found that 64% of adults didn’t eat fish twice a week, with young families with children aged between five and 11 eating the least fish (with only 25 per cent meeting the twice a week target).

To encourage more people to eat more fish, more often, Seafish runs an annual campaign – Seafood Week – which this year runs from 6th to 13th October.

The 2017 event promises to be even bigger and better than last year, when hundreds of schools, colleges, workplaces, restaurants and pubs took part. In 2016 almost 50,000 individuals visited the dedicated Seafood Week webpage and #seafoodweek created 84 million impressions in 8 days.

Seafood Week 2017 will start with the popular social media campaign #fishpunday (6th October 2017) encouraging the public to take part online, and giving businesses the opportunity for their products to be more visible to potential customers. A different species of seafood will be celebrated on each day of Seafood Week, with alternatives also promoted to highlight the variety and quality of fish and shellfish on offer in the UK.

We thinks it’s a great opportunity for foodservice businesses to tempt customers to choose seafood when they’re dining out.

There’s plenty of information and inspiration in Total Foodservice’s Focus on Fish brochure, plus some delicious and simple recipes using prawns, tuna and cod, which can be found on the Fish is the Dish website.

If you want to take part in Seafood Week (and have chance to win hundreds of pounds) sign up before Friday 6th October and get your business on the map.

Of course, you can make seafood a year round feature on your menu. For more information about Total Foodservice’s range of seafood products, speak to our sales team
