A National Cake Week? Who knew?

NATIONAL CAKE WEEK

As you know, we love cakes. They’re nearly always at the heart of social gatherings – and how would we celebrate birthdays, weddings and other feasts without them?

We don’t care if they’re round, square or oblong; flavoured or plain; iced or not; filled with cream, jam, buttercream or ganache. Bring out a cake and we’re happy.

So you can imagine how delighted we are to find out that there’s National Cake Week – totally dedicated to celebrating cake.

Founded in 2011 by a lovely Yorkshire woman, Lynn Hill (who also created the Clandestine Cake Club), the stated purpose of National Cake Week is to celebrate the joy of cake by slicing and sharing a whole cake with family and friends. A really sociable and delicious thing to do.

This year the event runs from 2nd to 8th October, so why not encourage your customers to share a whole cake between them. Not just family and friend groups, but the whole restaurant!

Of course they’re going to want a choice – not everyone likes chocolate fudge cake (honest!), but it’s so easy to take the basic sponge ingredients of flour, sugar, fat and eggs and enhance them with lemons, oranges, nuts, fresh fruit, dried fruit, chocolate, coffee, spices, treacle – or whatever else takes your fancy – to create a whole sweet trolley load of cake.

We’ve got all the ingredients you’ll need to help celebrate National Cake Week – and if you haven’t time or space to bake cakes yourself, check out Total Foodservice’s fantastic range of frozen whole cakes. You won’t be disappointed!

And don’t forget to share your cake creations on social media using #nationalcakeweek and @nationalcakewk.
