Celebrity chef opens fabulous food depot

TV’s Great British Menu winner Nigel Haworth was the star guest at the official opening of Total Foodservice’s new multimillion pound depot.

The Michelin-starred Ribble Valley chef joined deputy managing director Simon Howarth to untie the ribbon at the £2.9million Clitheroe property.

They were joined by a host of local food experts and food lovers, including Kendal College principal Graham Wilkinson, who is a former chef to the royal family and was Nigel’s lecturer in college, and Andy Morris Operations Director of Ribble Valley Inns.

Guests at the event were treated a tapas style lunch created by the Total Foodservice area sales managers Paul Thompson and Damian Ely, both trained chefs.

The pair made full use of the Total Foodservice product range to serve up a Lancashire twist on traditional tapas with a spread of 18 tapas dishes, followed by a dessert assiette of Masala Chai Panacotta, Green Tea and Banana smoothies, MonTeaTo and a Spanish cheeseboard.

Paul said: “The pressure was on us, but we relished the opportunity. We wanted to impress Nigel by putting together a great menu.”

The new Total Foodservice depot stands at 36,000sq ft on a 1.5 acre site. It took almost ten years to bring from drawing board to reality and includes a wealth of eco-friendly additions which keep energy use low and recycle natural resources.

Simon Howarth said: “We were delighted to welcome Nigel to our official opening. He has been a loyal customer for many years, so it was an honour to have him involved.

“We gave our guests a tour of the property and explained how the new facilities will help us deliver an improved and more efficient service. We received a lot of compliments on the day, both for the new depot and for Paul and Damian’s food.”

Simon added: “We will be delighted to show any of our customers, old and new, around our new premises over the coming months and invites will be going out in due course.”

Total Foodservice is one of the largest independent catering wholesalers in the North of England. It was formed in 2002 when two family firms merged, and now delivers a range of around 4,000 ambient groceries, chilled and frozen foods, non-food and cleaning materials. The TFS Pedal Power team are back!

Total Foodservice has once again got a Pedal Power Team together to raise money for a worthy cause. The Team of 10 will be cycling a new coast to coast route opened in September 2010 from Morecambe to Bridlington - 170 miles right across the hills in the Yorkshire Dales!

The chosen charity this year is local to our Lancashire depot, Ribble Valley based Crossroads Care. We will be raising sponsorship to help the work of this Charity which helps improve the lives of carers by giving them a break from caring responsibilities. Crossroads Care gives practical support with a highly trained care-support worker going into the home to relieve the responsibilities of the carer allowing them time off to see friends, keep appointments, work, study, relax or even just sleep.

New Lancashire depot progress

The progress of our new Lancashire Depot is cause for great excitement here at Total Foodservice and we hope also among our customers, especially now we are seeing long-made plans turn into reality with the rapid development of the new building.

When work started in September 2010, it was very difficult to visualise how this piece of land, tucked behind a petrol station and a McDonald's was going to turn into a 34,000 square foot state of the art depot. There's only so much Architects drawings can do!

However, 7 months in and the external building is in place. It is now, as we start to identify specific areas of the building that it starts to get really exciting. The photos above show quite clearly the glass fronted reception and the loading bays into the warehouse as well as the tremendous view across what will be the car park and articulated vehicle turning circle towards the stunning Pendle Hill reminding us that we're right at the heart of the Ribble Valley.

What we can't show you unfortunately because the lighting is not yet in place,is the vast warehouse space dedicated to the Freezers and Chillers as well as the dry stores inside the new building which will hold a phenomenal amount of stock from our circa 4000 product lines.

As soon as we can show you the vast scale of the building internally we'll post another update. Watch this space!

Total Foodservice is proud to announce that building has commenced for a new flagship hub depot in Lancashire.

This depot will see the current Lancashire depot relocating and will help to strengthen our current offering to customers across our distribution area

The Huddersfield depot which was extended 12 months ago will remain, and will be supported by the new hub depot which will hold significantly more chilled and frozen storage than the current Lancashire site.

The new 30,000 square foot building will be set on a 1.5acre site just outside of Clitheroe and will feature state of the art freezer and refrigeration systems as well as a demonstration kitchen and office space. The depot will also have facilities for larger delivery vehicles allowing greater access and ultimately extension of our delivery routes and frequency.

The new depot is scheduled to open in late 2011.
